Q: What are the requirements to join the Town of Kent Democratic Committee?
A: You must be a registered democrat and resident of the Town of Kent
Q: What if I recently changed my party affiliation to democrat but it won't be effective until after the next election? A: No Problem! you can still become a member of the committee
Q: What are the duties of a committee member? A: Comittee members are required to attend monthly meetings, participate in special events sponsored by the committee, interview potential candidates, carry designating petitions to collect signatures for candidates in their assigned area.
Q: How are candidates endorsed? A: Candidates are endorsed subsequent to an interview of potential candidates and subsequent vote of committee members.
Q: Is committee membership required to become a candidate?
A: No, but the minimum requirements prescribed by law must be met to be considered.
Q: Can a candidate seek the endorsed of more than one party?
A: Yes, however it is up to the candidate to secure additional party endorsements, and you can only force a primary election in the party you are affiliated with.
Q: What is a Primary?
A: At times there is more that one candidate seeking a party's endorsement and obviously only one candidate can be selected for each position. Candidates who do not receive the committees endorsement, can force a primary election held in September provided they are registered with that party. The winner of the primary election goes on to the general election as the party's candidate.
